As you can see, there are a variety of sizes and shapes to choose from, and there are a variety of materials that make up candle molds. Ranging from metal, aluminum, and plastic to polyurethane, rubber, or latex.
Whatever you choose, remember that the bottom of the stencil is the top of the wax. If you opt for a metal mold, you will find that it is a bit more durable and long-lasting than the others.
You don't want to scratch the matrix on the inside of the wax as this will make your wax look different as it cools. Keeping your shape cool gives it a more primitive look, while warmer shapes add a bit more sparkle.
Metal candle-making molds offer much less variety than cheaper ones. Plastic molds for example give you more designs to choose from to make some more unique candles.
The biggest drawback of plastic over metal is that plastic is less durable, so you usually get more scratches on the inside of the mold than metal.
