Irrigation Methods: A Quick Look

Irrigation is the controlled application of water to agricultural uses using man-made methods to meet the water demands not fulfilled through rainfall. It is crucial to cultivate crops across the globe to supply the ever-growing population with enough food. However, there are so many people who buy farm irrigation equipment online so as to fulfill the irrigation needs.

There are many different methods of irrigation employed worldwide, such as:

CENTER-PIVOT:

Automated sprinkler irrigation is achieved by automatically turning the boom or the pipe that is used for sprinklers and supplying water to sprinkler heads, or nozzles in a circle around the central point of the field that is to be watered. The water is then delivered to the center or pivot point in the system. The pipe is supported over the crop with towers set at regular spacings. Then it is driven by mechanical, pneumatic, electric, or hydraulic motors or skids on fixed circular routes at homogeneous speed. 

The water is pumped out at a constant rate through an increase in the size of the nozzle from the pivot until the point where the line ends. The depth of the water that is applied will be determined using the speed at which the system travels. 

SPRAY OR SPRINKLER:

A system of planned irrigation that sprays water through perforated pipes or nozzles operating under pressure in order to create a spray pattern.

SUB-IRRIGATION:

Applying irrigation water beneath the surface of the ground, or through raising water tables inside or close to the root zone, or by employing a buried perforated or impermeable pipe that is discharged straight into the root zone.
