A "contract Security Guard" is any person who provides security services. They are registered with the Bureau of Security and Investigation Services as security guards and require a current California Guard Card.
The private patrol operator that contracts security services to multiple clients is licensed to employ them. If you are interested in becoming a security guard, then you can also enroll in the 40-hour guard card coaching online. Required 40 hours of approved BSIS security training.

What is a "Proprietary Private Safety Officer"?
A Proprietary Security Officer (or PSO) works for one employer and provides security services to that employer only. You must wear a uniform clearly identifying yourself as a security officer and you are expected to interact with the general public during your duties.
This registration is done by the Bureau of Security and Investigation Service. This job requires registration as a Proprietary Security Officer.
- Required 16 hours of approved BSIS security training

- To keep your registration current, you will need to complete 2 hours of annual training
Our experience has taught us that you cannot be hired as a Security Guard if your PSO registration is completed. However, if you are Security Guards you can be hired to be a PSO.
